PS5 HDMI Port Repair in Jacksonville NC — What It Actually Takes

Posted June 7, 2026 by Justin Pinto, USMC Vet · Owner of My I.T. Guy LLC

If you're reading this, your PS5 probably looks like this: powers on, fans spin up, the LED gives you that warm glow — but the TV shows "No Signal." You've already tried a different HDMI cable. You've tried a different TV. You're now staring at a $500 console wondering if you have to buy another one.

You probably don't. PS5 HDMI ports are one of the most common, fixable failures on the entire console — and most shops in Jacksonville won't touch it. Here's why, and what it actually costs to fix.

What Actually Breaks

The HDMI port on a PS5 is soldered directly to the motherboard. It's a multi-pin port with surface-mount signal pins AND through-hole ground/shielding tabs — meaning when the port physically fails, replacing it isn't a "plug and play" job. It requires:

Total bench time: 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on how rough the port is. Sometimes the previous owner has tried to power through the bad port and damaged surrounding traces. That's where it gets more involved.

How Did It Break In the First Place?

The most common causes I see in Jacksonville:

When It's Worth Fixing vs Replacing

Fix it if: The console powers on normally, you hear the eject and disc-recognition sounds, the fan runs at normal speed. Those are signs everything else works — only the HDMI port is bad.

Replace it if: Console makes weird beeping or repeated power-cycling sounds, the disc drive grinds, or the console got dropped from height. Symptoms point at more than just the port.

For most PS5 HDMI failures, fixing is a no-brainer. New PS5 Slim is $499. PS5 Pro is $699. My HDMI port repair runs $150-200. The math is obvious.

What Most Shops Get Wrong

Most "repair" shops in Eastern NC don't have a hot air station rated for the ground tabs on a PS5 HDMI port. They'll quote you "we don't do that" or send the console out to a third party for 2-3 weeks. Some try and fail — I've gotten consoles that someone else attempted and gave up on, with damaged pads from too much heat or too much physical force.

The other common mistake: shops that DO attempt it use lead-free solder out of habit, which has a much higher melting temperature and stresses the board harder during the rework. For repair work, leaded Sn63/Pb37 solder is the standard — lower temp, cleaner joints, less thermal stress on surrounding components. (Yes, RoHS is a thing. Repair work has a different standard than new product manufacturing.)

My Process

  1. Free 5-min diagnosis. Bring it by or I'll come look at it. I can tell pretty quickly if it's a port problem vs something deeper.
  2. Quote upfront. $150-200 depending on what I see. No "we'll know more once we open it" surprises.
  3. Bench work. Console stays at my bench for 1-3 days depending on workload. I can usually get you back on the same week.
  4. Test before pickup. Full HDMI handshake test on a 4K TV, audio test, game launch test. I don't return a console I haven't verified.
  5. 90-day warranty. If the port fails from the repair itself (cold joint, etc.), I make it right. New physical damage isn't covered.

Drop-Off or Pickup?

For PS5 HDMI repair specifically, this is bench work — meaning the console comes to me, not the other way around. Most customers drop off in Jacksonville. If you're inside Onslow County and can't easily get to me, I can pick up and drop off for a small added fee. Either way, just text me and we'll figure it out.
